This is a minihowto about how to get sound working on a linux distribution.

As I am not an expert I will just show how my system is set up, so it works very well.

First you will have to choose: "K-menu - Multimedia - KMix" - which will bring the Kmix icon onto the panel (see below)

Kmix icon on the panel

Left click on the blue Kmixer icon (see above), and drag the volume slider into maximum position and click with the left mouse curson to make the small green

"eye icon" light green - see below

Kmix slider to max position and click on top "eye icon" to make it light green color (on)

Now right click on the blue Kmix icon and choose "Select Master Channel.." Right click on the blue kmixer icon and Select Master Channel..  - and choose "Master" - OK (see below)

Select the "Master" channel - OK

Then again right click on the blue Kmix icon and this time choose "Show Mixer Window" (see above)

When the KMix "Show Mixer Window" setup dialog opens make the settings as shown below.

You will note that there are three tab dialogs: "Output", "Input" and "Switches" (marked with black) and this is how my KMix has been set up - "lightgreen", "pink"

and "yellow" color means "on"  - also drag all the sliders to top position (max) - see below

The Kmix output, input and switches set-up dialog

Besides this you should also go to "K-menu - Settings - Sound & Multimedia - Sound System" and set up your system - below I will show how my sound settings

here are set up:

"K-menu - Settings - Sound & Multimedia - Sound System - General" - tab circled with black color (see below)
